Ft. Wilderness Camping 2008

Well it was spring break again.  This time we headed down to Disneyworld to camp at the Ft. Wilderness Campground.  5 days and 4 nights of Disney camping fun.  We would not be going into any of the theme parks this trip.  We wanted to make sure we had a relaxing time.  We started out with a trip to Florida's newest IKEA down in Orlando.  Then it was off to the campground.

They first gave us a site near the comfort stations and swamp all around.  We asked for another site.  It was further away from everything, and that is just what we wanted.

Here are a few panoramics of our home for the duration.  We set up our family tent and a dome for the boys to play in.  Wyatt slept in the tent almost every night.  Ryan did for most of the first night.  We also set up our pop up sunshade and a tarp over all of it incase of any rain.

We had local wildlife in our site everyday.  Ibis, ducks, and rabbits.  We never had neighbors to the south of us.  The folks to the north were hardly every at the campsite.  We had a small creek to the back of our site with the cabins on the other side.  It was a nice little site.

Since we took our bikes we rode around the campground and found all of the great places to play and fish and relax.  We even jumped in the Meadows Swimmin' Hole.

The next day we headed off to fish and play early in the morning.

After catching nothing but good sun we headed over to the lake/marina area and hung out on the beach.  The boys also played in one of the many play areas.

So after playing around in the morning we took off to go pool hopping.  Shame on us.  Sorry, but, with Disney's prices we figured no big deal.  Since we had a Disney resort parking slip we never had a problem.  We drove over to the Coronado Springs resort.  They have a huge pool and a water slide.  Unfortunately the slide was being refurbished.  The boys were able to play around there for a bit.

We also checked out the Wilderness Lodge Resort.  The resort looks like Yellowstone Lodge.  Even has a fake geyser and waterfall.  Oh yeah, the pool has a slide.  We will see it later on the tour.

On our way back from the resort we stopped at the Tri Circle D Ranch.  We got to watch them put shoes on a carriage horse named Dutch.

We hung out at the campsite and later went to Chip and Dale's campfire show.  We sang songs like P-L-U-T-O instead of BINGO and others.  After singing camp songs we watched Chicken Little on the outdoor movie screen. Then we rode our bikes back to our site.

The next morning we rode up to the marina and played in the sand.

After unburying Ryan we packed up in the car to go pool hopping again.  We first went to the Caribbean Beach Resort but they were refurbishing their whole pool area.  So Jeff came up with the idea to try the Polynesian Pool.  What a turn around!  It was set up like a volcano.  The waterslide was a lava tube.  (Too scary for the boys)  The pool had a zero level entry area (gradual slope instead of stairs), a waterfall with a cave for the changing rooms and a Tiki bar.  The best part was the pool looked out over the lake to the Magic Kingdom.

Above the boys are playing in the waterfall.  The cave is behind them.  The picture below was taken from inside the cave.

After a day of swimming in the tropics we were headed back to the campsite to get showered and clean for the Hoop Dee Do Review for dinner.

A retired couple sitting in the rocking chairs next to us while we were waiting for the show offered to take a family picture.

The Hoop Dee Do Review is an old west stage show.  Like something out of Tombstone.  The food and drink were unlimited.  The show was a blast the food was incredible and the boys had a gut bustin' rootin' tootin' good time.

After dinner we rode the bus to Downtown Disney.  We walked around.  Ryan was on a mission to see the Blues Brothers house.

The next day we rode our bikes over to the Wilderness Lodge to check out their pool, because when you go pool hoppin'......you take big hops.

After pool hopping all the other pools we felt that we should log some time in our own resorts pool.  So we hung out at the pool and had ice-cream.

After swimming we headed back to the beach for a quick play in the sand.

We had missed the fireworks and wanted to ride a boat and a monorail.  After dinner we headed off on an adventure planned by Wyatt.  Boat to Contemporary Resort, monorail around to the Magic Kingdom, and then boat back to the campground.  It was such a good plan we had to do it.

We watched the fireworks on the boat ride back.  Great adventure Wyatt!!!

The next day it was time to pack up and leave.  We had seen no rain the whole trip.  30 minutes after we packed up and headed to Downtown Disney it started to pour.

We had a wonderful trip.  We will definitely camp their again!
