The 2007 Beach House

We packed up the van and headed east to St. Augustine Beach for our annual beach house trip.  We met up with Emily's parents Dave and Julee.  Also driving up were Amy and Sharif with their two girls Jade and Aja.  This is a trip that is looked forward with great anticipation.

The weather was a bust for about half the trip.  We had one good day of beach the Saturday we arrived.

The beach was beautiful and clean.  We had enough time for a few castles and a bit of waves before we headed back to the house for dinner.

We were having a high tide problem.  Ryan was having a low tide problem.

The incoming tide was bringing in small bait fish.  We even caught a few!

We all got dressed and headed into downtown St. Augustine to have dinner at Columbia Restaurant.  The place is a favorite of ours and always a must do.

The weather got bad for a few days.  Not much beach time.

After a laze on the chair with Daddaddy, Ryan helped Daddy launch a water rocket sent from California from Grandmom.  You can see the storm front moving over the beach above the boys.

After the rainstorms blew over we would run out to the beach and get what we could.

The kids on the dune.

Jeff and Reef were able to play with a frisbee. A VERY difficult task in such high winds.  You can see the fishing pier to the north.

They also threw a football.  The orange nerf ball is directly over the beach house.  Jeff on the left.  Reef on the right.

The weather was starting to clear on Thursday.  So the four of us headed to the Castillo de San Marcos fort.

It was July 4th.  And on this day the monument was flying the American flag.  Usually it is the traditional colonial Spanish flag, so we asked why.  It was the flag that would have been flying post Civil War.  It was a really cool thing to see.

The boys were hiding out in the turret.  You can see the bridge work being done in the back ground.

We were hanging out on these cannons enjoying the weather when they announced they were going to be firing off a cannon on the hour.  It just so happens it was the cannon behind the boys where the other kids were playing.

Wearing Civil War Union uniforms the men marched their way to the upper level and gave a great show.

After the fort we walked down St. George Street and met Amy and Sharif and the girls.

Goofy cabin fevered kids!

Finally some beach time.  Check out the seaweed from the storms.

Jeff and Wyatt went body boarding in the heavies.

The "kids" built a monster sandcastle/pool using sand and seaweed.

Ryan flew his airplane.  He was able to get some good flights with the wind.

Despite the weather we had a wonderful time.  We had some great home cooked meals and lots of good fun.  We had our nightly firework show up and down the beach.  We went to Raferty's crab boil party.  Jeff and Reef went fishing with George Raferty again.  No catch but still had fun.  This was another wonderful week on the beach.
